I've been thinking lately about baby shower gifts, because it seems like I have to give a lot of them this month and next. Does anyone really remember what they receive from whom? I mean, is the purpose just to have something in hand to exchange for your glass of white wine?
I've decided I want to give something that matters now, and in the future. I looked around the house and realized all that stuff is gone -- my youngest is now 3 years old. But I did find one thing: Jack ornaments
I was thrilled! I went and found each of the three for my kids. The latter 2 I bought myself, but the first ornament was given to me as a gift. I was a young mother and had never heard of first Christmas ornaments.
The best ones, in my opinion, are personalized. Personalized first ornaments commemorate the year and of course, the babys name. But I also like the ones where you can record the babys weight and height, and even the time he or she was born. It's been so much fun to recall that tiny, precious baby in my swolen arms, a wonderful time I'll never forget.
So, I've decided, and I heartily recommend to you, that you consider a babys first Christmas ornament as your next shower gift. Get the artist to write you a little note on the bottom like, "With love from Paul & Genie". That way, they'll also always remember that fantastic baby ornament came from YOU!
